Engagement Ring (NO DIAMONDS)

Almost every single day I have someone ask or comment to me about my ring. These are some of the responses that I get:

Is that a diamond?
What is your ring?
Where did you get your ring?
So different.

My ring definitely suits me. I like to be different and I am not very traditional so diamonds were not going to be a part of my forever! I don't like that the diamond industry is pretty much a monopoly so they can jack up the prices as much as they want, and how will you ever really know if it is a man made diamond or real? Also conflict diamonds don't make me happy. After thinking through all of that I made the decision a few years ago I wouldn't get a diamond for my engagement ring.

I am not "anti-diamonds" on other people though! I still think they are beautiful and suit others very well. Also diamonds don't need to be replaced as often as a gem does so there is a plus!

Needless to say Darin was very happy that I wanted a ring that was affordable for him.

The center stone of my ring is a green amethyst. Amethyst is my birthstone, however, they are usually purple. On the ring itself are white sapphires. They don't sparkle as much as diamonds do but that is what I wanted. I love the delicate look.

Darin designed the ring at gemvara.com. A lot of jewelry stores did not have anything close to what I loved and all of them tried to convince me that I should just get a diamond ring. When we found this company we were so excited. You can customize EVERYTHING! Darin played around on the site for a few days before designing the perfect ring for me. He asked me if I liked it and I obviously said yes! If anyone is curious, this is the Cecilia ring design from the website and then we just customized it from there.

It was hard at first because we were skeptical about doing everything through the internet. The employees at Gemvara though, worked with us through email, live chats, and the phone.

Then Darin proposed to me with the most beautiful ring I have ever seen and I got to call him and the ring ALL MINE :)
